Descriptions
Hatha
This is a well balanced class for continuing students
that includes centering and breath work, a flowing
warm-up, standing and balancing poses, modified
inversion, deep stretches and openers, gentle backbends,
twists and relaxation. Focus is placed on alignment,
strength and balanced awareness in basic postures.
The wall ropes are often used in this class. Beginners
are encouraged to take Yoga Basics 101.
Vinyasa Flow
An energetic vinyasa (flowing from one posture to
the next) form of Hatha yoga in which postures are
fluidly linked together in a continuous and somewhat
challenging sequence. This class places a great
emphasis on the coordination of breath with movement,
leaving the student feeling energized and more focused.
Power Vinyasa
Similar in structure to the Vinyasa Flow yoga class
but with the heat turned up to 85 degrees (all other
classes are heated to 75 degrees) and with more
of a focus on challenging the physical and mental
aspects of a Hatha yoga practice. Please bring a
towel and prepare to sweat!
Kripalu Yoga
Kripalu Yoga is a modern school of Yoga that reflects
a synthesis of traditional approaches. It is based
on the teachings of Swami Kripalvanandji. More than
a spiritual practice on the Yoga mat, Kripalu Yoga
is a holistic lifestyle in which the principles
of Yoga are applied off the mat in daily life. The
key to the practice of Kripalu Yoga lies in understanding
prana (universal life-force) as a link between body,
mind, and spirit. The regular practice of Kripalu
Yoga will result in the awake-ning of prana, which
allows the deeper aspects of Yoga and meditation
to manifest spontaneously and effortlessly. Throughout
Kripalu's three-stage approach, you are guided to
move at your own pace, honoring your body's needs
in each moment. Kripalu Yoga develops the body,
mind and spirit in a compassionate and non-judgmental
way. You leave the class feeling uplifted and centered.
Chill Yoga
Chill Yoga combines Meditation with Vinyasa Yoga
(see Vinyasa description above) to form an eclectic
style of moving meditation. The class begins with
deep breathing excercises transpiring into a mindful
and meditative style of vinyasa flow and ending
with a deeply relaxing, and rejuvinating seated
meditation. For those students who are interested
in learning and/or incorporating more meditation
into their practice, this is a class you just might
fall in love with.
Gentle Yoga
Yoga
does not have to be physically demanding to yield
great benefits. This slower paced class is designed
to be a safe and supportive environment adapted
to the needs of seniors, those with injuries or
limitations, or for stress reduction. Come and enjoy
rediscovering the grace and joy that come with regaining
flexibility and strength. Please check with your
health care professional before registering for
this class.
Yoga Basics 101
This workshop will introduce the beginner and continuing
student to the basic history, vocabulary, postures,
alignment principles, breathing and relaxation techniques
in a safe and supportive environment. This is a
two hour workshop and is offered the third Saturday
of each month.
The
Egoscue Method
The
Egoscue Method is a Postural Therapy program which
involves a series of stretches and gentle exercises
called E-cises. It is designed to treat musculoskeletal
pain without drugs, surgery, or manipulation. This
is accomplished through bringing the skeleton back
into proper alignment. Certain E-cises relax overly
contracted muscles, which are usually secondary
muscles compensating for the weak primary muscles
not fulfilling their role. At the same time those
or different E-cises strengthen the atrophied muscles
to restore proper anatomical balance. The goal of
this method is to have all eight load-bearing joints,
which are the shoulders, hips, knees and ankles,
bilaterally aligned with a fully functional musculoskeletal
system to keep it that way.
Vinyasa
Express
This moderately paced vinyasa flow class will have
you feeling grounded, energized and out the door
in an hour!
Prep for the Day
In and out in one hour, this class prepares you
to better meet your day, whether it's on the mountain,
in the office or at home with the kids. A moderate-intensity
Yoga class designed to open you up, not wear you
out, Prep for the Day addresses flexibility and
strength in the back, shoulders, hips, and legs,
as well as increased circulation and improved breath
capacity. You will leave feeling vibrant, relaxed,
and ready to go.
For Your Back
The Spinal Column which is found in our Back is
one of the most vital parts of our body. It supports
our trunks, protects the Spinal Cord and the Spinal
Nerves and is highly responsible for all our posture
and movements. Back Injuries are the leading cause
of work-related disability in the United States
affecting both Men and Women of almost all age groups.
Back Injuries, however, are highly preventable through
exercise and proper posture.
Ashtanga Prep
Ashtanga Yoga is the style of yoga taught by Sri
K. Pattabhi Jois of Mysore, India. This class will
be taught in the traditional way with it's beautifully
flowing dance between breath and body. This is the
method upon which all Power Yoga is based.
